Ijsrecepten healthy for your children and for yourself

In this article I’ll give you some alternatives to ice cream which you can eat if you want to lose weight.

These variants are compared to ‘normal’ (water) ice very healthy and can the health of you and your children thus give a boost.

Unfortunately, these ice creams are not available at the ice cream shop, but you have to make them at home. That takes a little more time and preparation, but you get back to better health.

And if you look at the preparation of the ice cream on the bright side … it’s just a great opportunity to do something fun with your children. So let them particularly help in making the recipes!

Here are five healthy ijsrecepten.

1. Smoothie with ice cubes

You know that freezing, saccharine slush puppies which you can get by the pool or on the beach? Kids love it. Unfortunately, they are mixed with lemonade that is full of sugar.

Here follows a recipe to recreate this summer snack in a healthy way.


  • 100 g of spinach
  • 30g blueberries
  • 30 g raspberry
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 4 ice cubes

Preparation time: 10 minutes

How to make it:

  1. Peel the banana, cut it into small pieces and put them in the blender.
  2. Wash the blueberries and raspberries and add them.
  3. Peel the kiwi, cut into small pieces and add it.
  4. Wash the spinach, put it in the blender and add a little water.
  5. Let the blender run for at least 1 minute until all the ingredients form a uniform mass.
  6. Pour the smoothie into a can or very large glass.
  7. Put the ice cubes in the blender, mix them first on low and then high position, a small minute total.
  8. Pour the ice in the smoothie, use both a straw and a spoon and let the kids enjoy this refreshing ijsdrankje.

2. Self-Made banana ice
A few scoops of ice cream can be easily replaced by ice from fresh fruit. For example, bananas. Here’s the recipe.


  • 2-3 bananas (cut them preferably one day in advance into pieces and freeze them in)
  • 1 tablespoon organic (or homemade) nut butters
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon raw cocoa nibs
  • splash of unsweetened almond milk

Optional as topping:

  • nuts, seeds, pits
  • fresh fruit such as blueberries and raspberries
  • coconut chips, coconut grater

How to make it:

  1. Put the pieces of frozen banana in a food processor or blender (only if you have a good blender, if not use soft fresh bananas).
  2. Add the nut paste, almond milk and cocoa powder and mix it until it is a smooth but stiff whole.
  3. Put the cream into a bowl and add the cocoa nibs to.
  4. Add a topping of your choice, and enjoy!

3. Frozen yoghurt

Nowadays frozen yogurt totally hip. It is a kind of ice cream which has little to do with (healthy) yogurt. The name is therefore somewhat misleading.

I advise you strongly to eat this frozen yogurt because it is full of unhealthy fats and sugars.

Fortunately, the frozen yogurt to recreate easily in a healthy way. Here’s the recipe.


  • fresh fruit of your choice
  • Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or coconut yoghurt
  • cup cake cups

How to make it:

  1. Wash and cut the fruit into small pieces.
  2. Spread the cream cheese on the cups.
  3. To each cup add some fruit.
  4. Put the cups for over three hours in the freezer, or until they are as strong as you like it.


Add grated coconut or raw cocoa nibs to before you put the cups in the freezer.

4. Watermelon schaafijs

Watermelon is a great snack when you’re dealing with weight loss. It tastes wonderfully sweet and low in calories.

Most children are also another love, so ideal for use in a ijsrecept.


  • half a watermelon into chunks
  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • 2 teaspoons honey

How to make it:

  1. Put the watermelon in the blender and mix the juice. Pour the juice into a jug.
  2. Then do the ice cubes in the blender and mix in a quiet position, the food after half a minute up to a high position and mix equally.
  3. Pour the ice at the juice, stir a bit together and add the teaspoons honey.
  4. Put the can during freeze. Set a timer, stirring after 20 minutes the ice together with a large spoon. Make sure all the ice formed together is undone.
  5. Do this three times, every 20 minutes and you have a delicious watermelon slush puppy to drink.

5. Water (melon) ice

Water (melon) ice not really ijsrecept. But very healthy, easy to make and very popular with children because you eat like you eat an ice cream.


  • a watermelon
  • wooden ice cream sticks

How to make it:

  1. Cut the watermelon in triangular slices.
  2. For the middle of the shell an incision with a sharp knife.
  3. Put a ijsstokje and in part to the children, they can eat as much as they want. Truly a hit during the barbecue!
